Opportunities to Serve General Council Committees or As Delegates of the United Church of Canada
Recruitment Opportunities to serve are posted on the web-site (www.united-church.ca/nominations) and circulated widely by e-mail to all Conferences. A brief description of the committees mandate and the skills and experience needed to serve on the committees is posted. Individuals are invited to offer their gifts and talents for a specific committee, task group or delegation. Skills and Experience People expressing interest in these positions are expected to be active participants in a local pastoral charge or ministry, familiar with the polity of The United Church of Canada, predisposed to collaboration and teamwork, sensitive to diversity issues, leaders in a court of the church, passionately committed to the mission of The United Church of Canada, and willing to discern Gods yearnings for this work. Expressions of Interest Prospective committee members or delegates are asked to write a letter to express their interest to: Chair, Nominations Committee These letters usually include: þ a brief summary of your experience and skills þ involvement in the United Church þ why you feel called to this particular work þ what opportunity has caught their eye þ why this opportunity interests you þ contact information þ the names and contact information of three references They are sent by mail, e-mail nominate@united-church.ca, or fax (416) 231-3103. Selection and Appointment Additional information on those individuals who meet the selection criteria is gathered. The Nominations Committee uses a discernment process and makes recommendations. Routine screening procedures are applicable if committee members will come into contact with at risk or vulnerable groups through their committee work. In some cases there will be more expressions of interest than vacancies on committees. All individuals that express an interest in a particular committee or position will be notified of the recommendations of the Nominations Committee.
