Hamilton Conference is pleased to welcome the Reverend Peter Hartmans to the position of Hamilton Conference Minister for Faithful Public Witness effective September 1, 2007.

Broadly speaking the work of this position includes the following:

  • Providing consultation and program resources to the committees and networks of Pastoral Charges, Presbyteries and Conference in the areas related to Faithful Public Witness: Church in Society, Social Justice, Outreach, World Outreach and interpretation of the Mission and Service Fund.
  • Providing programming and assistance with planning and evaluation of programs in the area of Faithful Public Witness.
  • Keeping before the community and the church the prophetic dimensions of the Gospel.
  • Providing opportunities for Presbyteries and congregations to learn and develop communication skills.
  • Reviewing and bringing before the Conference resources related to the ministry of Faithful Public Witness.
  • Providing support to the Conference in media, public relations and internet communication.
  • Working within two of the six Presbyteries of the Conference developing a relationship with the presbytery committees within the sphere of Faithful Public Witness, to enable clusters of congregations to pursue their ministry and mission and serving as facilitator and animator, bringing in colleagues and others with particular areas of needed expertise as appropriate.

Peter is a gifted pastor with strong skills in theological reflection and social analysis and a deep sense of the spirit. His 14 years of ordained ministry within the United Church of Canada and the Reformed Church in America have helped him to develop good skills in mission education, group planning and facilitation and provided him the ability to relate to a wide variety of perspectives in ministry. Peter is committed to the mission, theology and ethos of the United Church of Canada. He will continue to serve as the minister of Palmerston United Church until July 30, 2007.

We are happy to welcome Peter to the Conference Staff and look forward to working with him.

Starting September 1, 2007, Peter can be reached through the Hamilton Conference Office by phone at (905) 659-3343 ext. 227; by fax (905) 659-7766; by email: phartmans@hamconf.org; or via Canada Post at Box 100, Carlisle, ON. L0R 1H0
